Quartz Composer - Examples - Quartz Builder - Toys

About
Quartz Builder, produced by Kineme Interactive Media, allows for the bundling of 3rd party plugins and other essential resources along with the composition dependent upon these, into a standalone executable, the contents of which are encrypted.

This means that any one running OS X Leopard can view such applications without having to install Quartz Composer, the Developer Tools or indeed, any of the 3rd Party plugins included with the composition.

Outputs can be for a Desktop, full screen application, a floating window, a normal application window, a shield or as protocolised screen saver.

Additional configurations are available, enabling animated resizing, listening or not to mouse events, applying of window name, background colour and window position.

Example compositions below, all require OS X Leopard, if you find that they run on Tiger, do please let me know. In theory and usually in pratice, the Quartz Builder applications provided here free of charge for your use and enjoyment, have been bundled with all the resources needed to run them. Needless to say, there have been known to be exceptions to the otherwise general rule that they will work.

Quartz Builder applications - Desktop Toys
Sakura First working Quartz Builder application, Particle System with Image , moved by mouse input, against a transparent background
Sakura BlancA variant of the Sakura application with a white background
LightDandelions Particle System with a QC patch generated 'dandelion' image with a little colour shifting thrown in for good measure
BarqueBuildBlanc
This a transplanted slimline reversioning of a music visualizer, this is the first of several Quartz Builder applications on this site that bundle up the requisite plugins, in this case, Kineme GL Tools.
This author rather suspects, nay finds, that this is usually the result of his not having bundled in the appropriate 3rd party resource.Should it prove to be the case that some Quartz Builder applications need a plugin or framework to operate, you will be so advised. All the applications on this page will work with the users install base on Leopard and the plugins bundled with the application. Elsewhere on this site there are Quartz Builder applications that require the Kineme3D plugin.

AudioPlaid
This a visualizer that produces a set of audio reactive spectrum lines and depends upon Audio Tools and GL Tools, both bundled.
AudioGram
This also depends upon the Live Input facility provided by Kineme Audio Tools
FlowFilterBuild
This is an example of an Image Filtered audio reactive composition, requires GL Tools.
FlowFilterScanner
This is an HSL colour shift variant of the Flow Filter Build, which incorporates a Scanner line patch and Zebra lines patch from Noise Industries. This is a prime example of the sort of Quartz Builder application, wherein a preinstalled plugin or framework rseource is required.

Quartz Builder applications - Desktop Toys
cherry petals This was one of my first deliberate designs, a follow the mouse Particle System of cherry petals - nice :-)
seedhead This was the second of my deliberate designs, a similar idea to cherry petals, same basic mechanism, different graphic, different effect and result.
StreamPoints This is another music visualizer design transplanted into a Quartz Builder application
seedhead shield This is a GL Tools dependent variant upon seedhead and cherry petals.
Otherwise everything should be good to go and do say hello to a new way of passing all sorts of content around, Quartz Builder applications. Think of it as the Quartz Composer equivalent of ( and more besides ) a Powerpoint or Flash projector. Most of the examples below are only applications in so far as they actually run standalone, they do not afford much beyond their in built level of input reactivity, but they do provide a proof of concept for using Quartz Compositions within dedicated applications.

Audio Plaid, Audio Gram, Flow Filter and Flow Filter Scanner all require an active microphone input.

Enjoy.

All applications are published under the Free Document Licence - Enjoy
